On the morning of September 16th, an opening ceremony was held for the freshmen of this year at the gymnasium of Yingtian campus, present at the ceremony were Mr.PengKunming, secretary of the party committee, Mr. CuiXinyou, president of the university, Ms. JinLixia, vice secretary of the party committee, vice president, ZgangYibin, WuGuanglin, YouJiachun, WangWei, LiuYutao, vice presidents, together with leaders of relative departments, teachers in charge of new classes, counselors and all the freshmen. The ceremony was hosted by Ms.JinLixia.
Avideo clip titled “dynamic youth” preluded the ceremony, showing the high lights of freshmen’s entrance into the university and their military training, then,solemn national anthem kicked off the ceremony. Ms. YeHaiyue, a representative of teachers made a speech, combing his experience in teaching practice.According to him, green initiatives and environment protection have become a common awareness of the world, to build a green campus is a response to the globaltrend, hence, students are supposed to be clean and honest in their character and morals, shoulder the responsibility of environmental protection, be plainand simple in their behavior and fulfill their ambition with diligence in their academic work.
Ms.XiaWeizong, a representative of alumni, encouraged his junior fellow students to think big and plan ambitiously, and shared his own working experience inaspects of changing roles, establishing vocational ideals, defining one’sgoals, learning comprehensively, planning reasonably, making full use of time,etc.
With a happy vision of her future academic career at JSCVC, WangYating, are presentative of freshmen, student from school of media studies and designexpressed that it was her most fundamental desire to learn and live in a rightway, she would follow the school motto of “Striving for advancement”, learning hard, being acquisitive and creating a better campus with the joint efforts ofher schoolmates.
NiuYutao,vice president declared a resolution for scholarship awarded to freshmen of 2017 in public, on hearing the names of scholarship winners, students responded with warm applause, which was atremendous encouragement to the entire freshmen.
Aspeech titled” To stay motivated and practice earnestly in the pursuit of perfection” was delivered by President Cui who pointed that in the age of industrialization, information, intelligence, students have access to infinite opportunities and tremendous challenges as well, they should learn to adapt to the times. By citing two stories, he inspired the student to be thoughtful of what to learn, how to learn, and to which extent to learn. Firstly, taking the university of Minerva Americaas an example, president Cui instructed the students to grasp each moment atthe university, to lay a good foundation for their future career, and to head for their goals unswervingly. Students are supposed to check what they havelearned and put the knowledge into a comprehensive use. In terms of learning methods, online learning, group discussion, internship, practice in enterprisesby filling a position play a significant role in accumulating their competencesin specialty, renovation, problem-solving.
The next example was a teacher in Tinghua University, who was dedicated to developing students’ comprehensive practical ability by using an elicitation method of teaching. He pointed that it posed a challenge toteachers from whom students are supposed to learn to solve problems, even toplay for fun. Hence, teachers are requested to be adaptive to the realm of multi-culture, international vision and form objectives which may define the set up in the future. All the faculty and students were encouraged to face challenge confidently with clear goals, strong will power, and good habits. By sharing the two stories, he placed wishes on everybody present: confront challenges with confidence and in calm, stay motivated and practice earnestly in the pursuit of perfection.
Finally,led by TaoJia, chairman of the students’ union, all the freshmen of 2017 made avow: scrupulously abide by the school motto of constantly striving for improvement, carry forward a learning style of learning intellectually andmorally, cherish college life, pursue the truth, advocate for science, learn diligently, be active in practice, be faithful and work in unity and close cooperation, endeavor to make greater contribution to the society.
