Schoolof Media and Design (SMD) of Jiangsu City Vocational College is located in thecampus of East Dinghuai Gate, adjacent to Nanjing University of Art in thecenter of the city. It offers six programs, including Production of Radio andTelevision Programs, Film andTelevision Animation, Advertising Design andProduction, Environment Art Design (interior decoration oriention), Digital MediaArt and Design, and Digital Publishing. Currently it has about 983 students. Thisyear, apart from Digital Publishing, which recruits general higher vocationalcandidates, other majors, including art majors and Broadcasting TelevisionPlaywright-Director, enroll art candidates. It has jointly launched an UndergraduateExamination project with Adult Education College of Nanjing University ofArt. The sophomores majoring in Fine Art in our school can form a class to takean undergraduate examination of self-study of Nanjing University of Art, which provideschannels for students studying for undergraduatedegrees during the period of school.
SMDis the construction unit of the key speciality group of the 12thfive-year plan of Jiangsuprovince, namely, Design and Production of Film and Television Media. It has 37full-time faculty members, including 1 professor, 8 associate professors and 25lecturers. More than 90 % of them are “double-qualified teachers. In theteaching, we have alsohired a group ofenterprise “backbones” and skillful craftsmen as part-time teachers to instructstudents in practical courses and internship to promote students to adapt tothe enterprise working environment, understand the enterprise workflow, graspthe practical skills required by enterprises, and improve the employmentability of students.
SMDconsists of a training center and threedepartments: Deparment of Film and Television Advertising, Deparment of DigitalMedia and Deparment of Environmental Arts. The experimental training site of“High-definition Television Program Manufacture”, Film and TelevisionAnimation and Graphic Design has been estabalished in thetraining center, which meets the need of the campus experiments and practiceteaching and provides conditions for the students’ real projects such as Animation,Film and Television Production, Advertising Design and Production, Interior Design,Film and Television Advertising and Interactive Media Design
SMDhas built Adobe training evaluation center, Autodesk training examinationcenter, Apple training examination center and NACG Center (a projectcultivating digital art talents) on campus with Apple, Adobe, Autodesk and NACGCenter, which have trained and evaluated our students, about 500 students eachyear, and started to serve the society, All graduates of our college got thetraining certificates. Every department of SMD has stable off-schoolcooperation units.Through the internal and external workshops and the training bases,we provide students with practical training and internship and have achievedfruitful results of school-enterprise cooperation
SMDhas built a complete school scholarship and financial aid system. Eachyear about 20% of the students benefit from financial aid and student loans andmore than 30% of the students obtain national and school scholarships, whichheip them to complete their studies successfully. SMD has a sound studentorganization. the The students' union,the class and the society often carry out rich and colorful campus culturalactivities, such as recreational activities, public service and activities of professionalskills, stronglypromoting thestudents’ all-round development of morality, intelligence physique andaesthetics
Inrecent years, the teachers of SMD actively instructed the students in theskills competitions, and yielded fruitful results. The students got good gradesin many kinds of competitions, such as the Film and Television Works ExhibitionOf Global Chinese College Students, Beijing University Student Film Festival,the National College Students' Advertising Competition, the National UniversityStudent DV Festival, The National College Digital Art Competition of theMinistry of Industry and Information Technology, Pilot CupMultimedia Film and Television Works Exhibition in Jiangsu Province, etc.
SMDhas trained nearly 8000 talents in the field of radio, film and television and artdesign for the society. Most of them are in the service of enterprises and publicinstitutions, such as radio and television agencies, advertising mediaproduction companies, decoration design companies, game animation companies, etc.,engaged in the production, design and management related to cultural and creativeindustries. Many graduates have become business backbones and some graduateschose to start their own businesses and and have prospered.
