From November9th to 11th, 2017”FLTRP Cup” English speaking competition for Jiangsu vocational college students was grandly held at our university, 196 contestants from 68 vocational colleges competed at the same stage and displayed theirtalents.
At the opening ceremony, on behalf of the university, Lan Yaming, vice president delivered a welcoming speech enthusiastically, expressing his wishes for thesuccess of the competition and wishing excellent results for the contestants.He emphasized the importance of vocational education to the nation and societyand it’s essential that talents of excellent English proficiency should becultivated to cater to the needs of professional development. Mr. Xu Qing, vice director of Higher education department of Jiangsu Educational Bureau,professor LiXiaoxiang, head of Jiangsu foreign language teaching association,Mr. Wang Jianping, director of information center of FLTRP made speechesrespectively.
This competition was phased into preliminary contest, intermediary heat, and final.Preliminary contests had been held at each college for selecting contestants toparticipated in intermediary heat and final on site. Intermediary heat was conducted in three terrains, one review panel of 9 experts in charge of evaluation and 1 expert for questioning in each terrain. Three topics were designated for the contest: “Education is a progressive discovery of our ignorance”、“Life is abitter-sweet experience”,“Success does not necessarily mean material rewards”.Contestants were requested to set forth their points before answering questions within one minute. Judges made a comprehensive appraisal of contestants basedon the contents of their answers, mentality, language proficiency. The atmosphere was lively and splendid. Contestants won warm applauses from the audience with their confidence, accurate and fluent language expression,appropriate posture. At the impromptu speech session, contestants were requiredto associate and clarify their points according to lots they had drawn. Ontopics of online shopping, advantages and disadvantages of mobile phones, urbanand rural life, contestants accurately and wisely clarified their points andanswered questions, fully demonstrating their adaptation and adequate commandof language. Liu Xun, student from school of commerce won the first prize,ZaiZeng, and CaoTing, from school of media and design won the second prize, andthe third prize went to Li Jiacheng, an accounting major from school ofcommerce. ZhaoMing, ZhouZonghao, teachers from school of commerce andCaoLinjing, FuWei, from school of international education were designated asexcellent instructors.
Guided by Jiangsu educational department, sponsored by FLTRP, and association of foreign language teaching, the competition has been organized by our university for the7th time since 2011. It has developed into one of the most important English speaking competitions with the most participants , of the largest scale and atthe highest level.
