On April 19, the opening ceremony of 2019 JSOU Reading Festival was held in the conference hall of Dinghuamen Campus. Fan Xiaoqing, the Chairman of Jiangsu Writers Association was present at the ceremony and gave the opening lecture. Wang Jianming, Party Secretary of JSOU greeted Ms.Fan before the ceremony, appreciated her presence and introduced the development of JSOU to her. Wang Wei, vice president of JSOU presided the opening ceremony.
Wang Wei expressed warm congratulations on the opening of the festival on behalf of JSOU, and illustrated the importance of reading from aspects of developing national power, enriching life meaning, and enhancing people’s spiritual realm. He wished young college students to read more classic books which would nurture their mind and soul.
Fan Xiaoqing made a lecture themed on “Literature and Modern Life”. She cited the beginning words of Charles Dickens’ “A Tale of Two Cities”, analyzed the characteristics of modern life, and proposed that people resist temptation and purify their mind and soul when confronted with various desires in a material world. She also had communication with teachers and students about literary creation and literature critics in a humorous and relaxing way.
Fan Xiaoqing, born in Suzhou, Jiangsu, was a productive writer with many full-length novels and more than 300 short stories. She was the winner of Lu Xun Literature Awards and the Image Ambassador of Jiangsu Pro-Reading Camaign.
