On December 22, JSOU held the Advanced Forum of Performing Artists and Famous Scholars in Jiangsu Traditional Operas Studies on Dinghuaimen Campus. Well-known scholars in opera studies and famous performing artists were invited to attend the forum, discussing development plans for Jiangsu traditional operas and traditional Chinese culture, and were appointed as Distinguished Professors of JSOU. They are Professor Liwei from Shanghai Theatre Academy, Professor Wang Tingxin from Southeast University, Professor Shen Yizhen from Nanjing University of Arts, Professor Ban Junrong from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Professor Xue Lei from Jiangsu Second Normal University, and Professor Bai Yun from Nanjing University, Li Hongliang, vice president of Jiangsu Performing Arts Group and director of Jiangsu Kunqu Opera Theatre, Peng Lingang, national class-A actor from Jiangsu Beijing Opera Theatre, and Qiu Caiping, Kunqu opera artist, etc..
Zhang Xiao, vice president of JSOU attended the forum and delivered a speech. She introduced the construction of operas and film courses in JSOU, and pointed that JSOU is the only comprehensive university which offers performance majors. Ever since the foundation of Jiangsu Opera Artists Committee, Art School has set up three majors in opera performance and enrolled more than 100 students from theatres of various operas in Jiangsu province, which has greatly promoted the cultivation of opera talents.
The forum was presided by Huang Yilan, deputy director of Art School of JSOU. All the faculty and students of Art School attended the forum, which contained two sessions——the exploration of development mode and path for Jiangsu traditional operas under national culture revitalization strategy, and the development of majors in opera performance of JSOU in exploiting its advantages, strengthening faculty research ability, serving the local society, carrying forward the operas culture in Yangtze River Delta Area, and promoting the application for qualification of awarding Master Degree in opera performance.
The performing artists and scholars had deep discussion and communication around discipline construction, scientific research, talents cultivation, and business-education integration, considering the situations of running mode, courses set-up, scientific research platform of JSOU.
