On December 28, JSOU held the Development Conference for High Quality Construction of Open Universities on Yingtian Campus. Guests and representatives of teachers, students and alumni came together, celebrating the 40th anniversary of founding of JSOU. The conference was presided over by Wang Jianming, party secretary of JSOU.
Jin Chuanjin, president of Open University of China, Xu Gongfang, party secretary of Zhejiang Radio and TV University, Zheng Hanhua, president of Anhui Radio and TV University, Xu Wenmou, president of Shandong Radio and TV University, Wu Guorong, president of Fujian Radio and TV University, Wang Hong, vice president of Shanghai Open University, Chen Jianghong, vice president of Jiangxi Radio and TV University, Liu Weihong, deputy party secretary of Guangdong Open University, and Zhou Changbao attended the conference. Also present at the conference were leaders from other colleges, universities, academies and industry associations, as well as all the school leaders, retired former leaders, all administrative staff, representatives of teachers, alumni, and students. Ninety one universities and organizations sent their congratulation messages.
According to Wang Jianming, JSOU has gone through 40 years of glorious history and achieved great results in transforming its mission from compensated degree education to lifelong education ever since its founding as Jiangsu Radio and TV University. The construction strategy with “one goal, three steps, four development tactics, and 12 foundation projects” was put forward last year as the guideline of our development. And just two days ago, vice-governor of Jiangsu Province Fei Gaoyun attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the new campus building, on which all the JSOU faculties build up their hope. To better meet the diversified and individualized learning requirements of the public, JSOU will keep high quality development and explore the pathway of building open universities with Chinese features.
President Cui Xinyou delivered a speech entitled “Solving the Questions of Construction of Open Universities with Jiangsu Experience”, in which he recalled the history of JSOU, summarized our development experience, and put forward eager hope for the future development. He claimed that JSOU, as the witness of reform and opening-up, has changed more than 800,000 learners’ life in the past 40 years, and set its foot on a new pathway of development of open universities with pioneering spirit and awareness of serving the local development. He stressed that JSOU will keep the high quality development in a consistent and creative way.
Ju Chuanjin, president of Open University of China (OUC) said in his speech that JSOU has made great contribution to the building of a strong, rich and beautiful Jiangsu. OUC will keep supporting the reform and development of JSOU and work together with JSOU to write a new chapter of constructing first class open universities.
Guan Zhaoyong, party secretary of Nanjing Institute of Information Technology, Zhou Liang, HR manager of Suning Corperation, Nanjing, Professor Xu Sihai, representative of faculties, Xue Jinmin, and Zou Lijuan, representatives of alumni, and Yang Daomeng, representative of students made speeches, expressing their congratulations and best wishes to JSOU.
Later, a series of celebrations were held, such as a forum themed “Constructing a Lifelong Learning Education System”, meetings of alumni home-coming, a splendid variety show, and the achievement exhibition of 40 years’ development, etc.
