On July 13, the Training Programs for Teaching Skills was successfully held. The workshop was co-conducted by JSOU and the Open University of UK. Six prestigious experts from the Open University—Ducan Banks, Mark Endean, Tom Olney, Martin Friel, Janet Sumner, and Gerard Giorgi-Coll—gave trainings to teachers of JSOU with a new mode of online lectures plus offline practices. The programs include three sessions—learning design and course creation workshop, tutoring skills workshop and media training workshop, which elaborate the philosophy of “learner-centered teaching”, and demonstrate the deep blending of course teaching and online teaching. More than 90 teachers from schools and branch universities attended the program.

The learning design and course creation workshop aims at enabling the teachers to create students-centered course design, and ensure the learners with good learning experience. The tutoring skills workshop is targeted at helping teachers better understand the learners and encourage them to participate in learning more actively. The media training workshop helps the teachers master the skills and technology to produce online courses.
