On November 23, the “Summit Forum of Open University Construction and the Renaming Ceremony of Henan Open University” was held in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. The official establishment of Henan Open University was witnessed by more than 500 people including government officials, experts and educators, who also had in-depth exchanges and discussions at the forum focusing on the construction of the Open Universities.
Zhang Xiao, vice president of JSOU was invited to attend the forum and deliver a themed speech entitled “Promote the High-quality Development of Open Universities with Discipline Guidance”, which shared the development philosophy and practices of JSOU in the process of constructing high-quality open university since its transformation in 2012. Zhang first congratulated on the renaming of Henan Open University. Then she introduced the 41-year history of JSOU and the important events in the university development, showing our educational philosophy of “adhering to the right, consolidating the foundation, following disciplines, seeking for innovation and changing in a flexible way”. She also introduced the achievements JSOU made in talents cultivation, discipline construction, scientific research, and informationization construction with detailed data. In the last part of her speech, Zhang elaborated on the measures JSOU had taken in top design to reach the goal, scientific management to enhance quality, strengthening the connotation construction to promote development and utilizing technology to build smart campus.
