​2020 “FLTRP·ETIC CUP” Public Speaking Contest (Jiangsu Provine) Successfully Held in JSOU

From November 12 to 14, the 2020 FLTRP · ETIC Cup Public Speaking Contest (Jiangsu Province) was held in our school. A total of 181 contestants from 61 higher vocational colleges competed on the same stage to display their command of English. This competition is directed by the Vocational Education Department of Jiangsu Provincial Education Department, Jiangsu Higher Education Association, and sponsored by Vocational Education Research Association of Jiangsu Higher Education Association, Foreign Language Teaching Research Association of Jiangsu Universities, and East China Information Center of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press.

At the opening ceremony held on the morning of 13th, Niu Yutao, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Committee and vice president of JSOU, delivered a speech on behalf of the university. He warmly welcomed the guests, experts and judges, as well as the instructors and competitors, and wished the contestants excellent results. He pointed out that speech is not only a display of language art and language ability, but also a comprehensive reflection of a person's ability of logical thinking, language control and communication. By participating in this competition, both students and teachers get the opportunity to develop and grow. Wan Wei, director of Vocational Education Department of Jiangsu Provincial Education Department, Professor Li Xiaoxiang, executive vice president of Jiangsu University Foreign Language Teaching Research Association, and Tong Zongxing, marketing manager of FLTRP, delivered speeches respectively.

The competition is divided into three stages: preliminary, semi-final and final. The preliminary competition was held by each participating college, and the semi-final and final will be held on November 13 and 14 respectively. The theme of the semi-final is Challenge to All. Each contestant gives a 3-minute prepared speech. After the speech, they will have 1 minute to answer the questions raised by the question master. The final is divided into two parts. Each contestant first gives a 3-minute impromptu speech, and then answers the question raised by the question master. The contestants' fluent spoken language, calm and confident attitude, affection for the motherland, vision of the world and elegant manners won the unanimous praise of the judges and the audience.

After fierce competition, Mo Qi of Suzhou Vocational University, Shen Chenyu of Wuxi Higher Vocational School of Tourism and Commerce, and Yang Cheng of Changzhou College of Information Technology won the special prize. In addition, 18 first prizes, 45 second prizes and 62 third prizes were also awarded.

It is the 10th consecutive competition held by the School of Foreign Languages of JSOU, and it is also the first competition in the post epidemic era.
