On the morning of November 13, Wang Jianming, Secretary of the Party Committee, presided over a symposium on Three-Zone Linkage (Pukou Development Zone – Community – University Cooperation). Vice president Wu Guanglin, as well as directors of Organization Department, Publicity Department, Personnel Department, Academic Affairs Department and Science & Technology Department attended the meeting.
The construction of new campus is a key project to boost the construction of high-level Open University. The report of the second party congress of our university pointed out that the new campus should be planned and constructed in accordance with the high positioning and standards and strive to realize the Three-Zone Linkage of the Pukou economic development zone, community and university. It is the top concern of JSOU to integrate into the regional development even before the completion of the new campus, to give full play to the function of universities in local development, and to make discipline construction conform to regional development.
Recently, an article in China Education Daily entitled Vice President in Charge of Scientific Research Connecting the University and the City for Integrated Development has aroused the high attention of Wang Jianming, Secretary of the University Party Committee. According to the report, more than 200 high-level talents of science and technology from Shandong University of Technology have been selected into the One person Takes Two Posts plan. They are teachers of the university and meanwhile vice presidents in charge of scientific researches in the enterprises. They have become a bridge and new belt connecting the university, enterprises and local areas.
On the basis of in-depth study of the experience and practice of Shandong University of Technology, the heads of functional departments attending the symposium elaborated their views and opinions on how to reach the goal of Three-Zone Linkage integration development according to their own post responsibilities.
Wang Jianming pointed out that stimulating dreams of staffs, strengthening the capability, and perfecting systems of JSOU are the primary task of the current team of university leaders. At present, the university is sparing no efforts to apply for the qualification of conferring master's degrees. In terms of scientific research, we should not only aim at applying for high-level national fund projects and conducting high-quality researches, but also look for horizontal projects cooperating with the enterprises in Pukou Economic Development Zone. He said that Jiangbei new area is located at the intersection of the eastern coastal economic belt and the Yangtze River economic belt, which has unique location edges. Pukou Economic Development Zone, where our new campus is located, is in the core area of Jiangbei new area, where a large number of well-known enterprises are gathered and have broad development prospects. We should learn from Shandong University of Technology and Changzhou Institute of Technology, make full use of the location advantages of the new campus, integrate the development of the school with the regional development, and improve professional teachers’ ability to serve the enterprises by solving difficult problems.
Vice president Wu Guanglin said in his speech that our university should strengthen the cooperation with the enterprises and communities to achieve win-win results, and should give full play to alumni enterprises which play an important role in connecting the university with industries and local governments.
