On July 12th, the 2021 Online Course Workshop with UKOU held by JSOU started on time in Nanjing. There are two special participants from QHOU this year, Meng Yan and Wang Cunxia. Inviting teachers from QHOU to participate in Online Course Workshop is one of JSOU’s actions for collaboration and paired assistance between the Eastern and Western regions. It is also an effective way to share Jiangsu experience in education with QHOU.

In the first week of the workshop, two teachers participated in the Learning Design Workshop delivered by Ducan Banks, Mark Endean and Tom Olney, 3 senior experts from the UKOU. The two formed a learning group with JSOU teachers, designed and presented an online course with learning design workflow and other design tools. During the workshop, Meng and Wang overcame the fatigue of long-distance travel and the hot weather, participated in the interaction, polished their teaching design and tried to ensure that every step they learned mean something.

In the step of learning activity design, Meng’s group broke the regular mode of in-class teaching and creatively carried out immersive situational teaching and assessment. With the small theater mode of case study, they tried to increase the interest of teaching and improve students' enthusiasm for online learning. Wang’s group attempted to design a course where students have high class participation. With the resources of UKOU’s 7 learning activity types, namely finding and handling information, communication, adaptation, production, experiment, assimilation and assessment, every unit set up 4 different learning activities, providing students with ample demonstration opportunities.

After the first week of training, both two teachers from QHOU had deep feelings. They said that learning design and course construction should closely follow the teaching aims and learner-centered education concepts could help teachers design their course. The workshop made them feel energetic and enthusiastic about their teaching in the future.
