On October 27th, JSOU School of Foreign Languages held tryouts for 2021 JSOU Speech Contest and 2021 FLTRP and Guocai Cup National English Speech Contest (Higher Vocational Group of Jiangsu Division).
The speech contest was a combination of students’ voluntary registration and teachers’ recommendation and attracted 127 participants from all JSOU schools. Theme of the contest was "Red Star Over China" and two stages were designed for it——reading articles and answering questions. The participants’ pronunciation and intonation were evaluated in reading the articles while their relevance, thinking, logic and language fluency were evaluated in answering questions.
The judges, consisting of 6 teachers from School of Foreign Languages, evaluated the contestants’ English-speaking skills and general image. Finally, 4 first prize winners, 10 second prize winners, 15 third prize winners and 32 excellence prize winners were chosen.
Through the speech contest, outstanding candidates for provincial contestant were selected while an extracurricular trial for ideological and political education had been applied.
During the preparation and competition, the participants deepened their understanding of the revolutionary spirit of the pioneers in the Long March and strengthened the sense of responsibility and mission in the new era.
