From October 19th to 22nd, Huang Yilan, dean of JSOU School of Art, led the Department of Chinese Opera Art to Xuzhou, Jiangsu to collect video data and interview with inheritors of Xuzhou Bangzi Opera and Xuzhou Liuqin Opera.
Huang Yilan and teachers from Department of Chinese Opera Art first visited Zhao Jinsheng, an 82-year-old veteran artist of Bangzi Opera, and interviewed with him on history, development status and singing characteristics of Bangzi Opera. Then they had an interview with Yan Ling, the director of Jiangsu Bangzi Theatre and a winner for Plum Performance Award, her student Wu Yan, a young actress of Bangzi Opera, and Dong Ruihua, a first-class composer in Jiangsu Bangzi Theatre, to talk about the creation of opera music.
On the next day, the video-shooting team filmed the inheritors of Xuzhou Liuqin Opera. Yao Xiuyun, an 88-year-old performer, Wang Xiaohong, a winner for Plum Performance Award, Liu Linlin, a provincial inheritor of Liuqin Opera, and Yang Cheng, a young performance attended the performance. The 4 artists gave a detailed introduction of the origin, variation, singing characteristics and inheritance of Liuqin Opera.
The video data collection of Jiangsu Bangzi Opera, Liuqin Opera and other Jiangsu local operas collected provided samples for the construction standard of Jiangsu Opera Museum, as well as more high-quality characteristic resources for the research work of opera major.
According to opinions raised at the expert discussion meeting held in the early stage, JSOU School of Art would form the historical knowledge maps of opera from the perspective of regional characteristics, historical context, singing characteristics and other dimensions of Jiangsu local opera and further explore the new coordinates, angles and clues of the exhibition of Jiangsu Opera Museum.
