On December 9th, the 9th Debate Contest in JSOU was held on campus. Zhang Xuan, director of Jiangsu Lifelong Education Credit Bank Administrative Center, Xie Dongbing, JSOU Library curator, Liu Tao, director of JSOU Student Affairs Office, Lu Fuyi, former director of JSOU Organization Department and Liu Huiying, vice director of JSOU Propaganda Department served as judges. Nearly 200 students watched the final debate.
The debate contest is divided into 7 rounds, during which the elimination system was adopted. This year, a total of 10 teams participated. Unlike the previous competition, this year students from both JSOU and JSCVC participated in the debate as well. Each debate is divided into 4 parts, opening statement, defense, free debate and closing statement.
On the evening of December 2nd, the preliminary round of the debate was held. After fierce competition, Business School, School of Environment and Ecology, School of Marxism, School of Information and Electrical Engineering entered the final round.
School of Environment and Ecology started their debate with the statement that professional and specific people are more competitive, demonstrating with policies and examples, they pointed out the disadvantages of general learning. Business School argued from the perspectives of sustainable development of society, all-round development of individuals and interdisciplinary diversity.
School of Information and Electrical Engineering held the idea that people can serve the society after realizing one’s interests. School of Marxism insisted that college students should get rid of egoism and adapt to the trend of social development.
Xie Dongbing remarked the competition as fierce and wonderful. He summarized and analyzed the debate from the definition, keyword extraction, theoretical importance, logic and attack skills.
Finally, Business School won the champion, School of Environment and Ecology won the runner-up, and School of Marxism won the third place. Xie Wenyan won the title of Best Debater. Zuo Huiyu won the title of Best Instructor. Lv Danyang and other 9 students won the title of Excellent Debater. Liu Yangxin and other 9 teachers won the title of Excellent Instructor.
