The Third Session of the Second Faculty’s Congress was held on March 2nd at the lecture hall of Dinghuaimen Campus of JSOU. 122 official and non-voting representatives from 6 delegations attended and Vice President You Jiachun presided over the meeting.
In the morning, President Cui Xinyou gave a work report entitled “Confidence, Unity, and Continuous Striving for a Bright Future as ‘the University for Jiangsu People’”. The report reviews the achievements of JSOU in 2021 from twelve aspects: solid development of the study of CCP’s history, notable efforts to promote inspection and rectification, improvement of quality and efficiency in enrollment and employment, progress of discipline and academic major construction, pragmatic and vigorous growth of teaching staff, higher level of scientific research, fruitful achievements as a culturally-renowned university, model to serve rural revitalization, extensive social training system, far-reaching credit bank system, inspiring livelihood projects, and blossoming of school management according to law. Eight key tasks of 2022 were defined, namely party building, talent introduction, discipline construction, complete credit system reform, scientific research, “intelligent education ecology”, new campus construction, and cultural construction. President Cui stressed that in 2022, only by not forgetting the initial mission of educating people for the Party and the country, and keeping the morale of never giving-up, can we realize the grand cause of building a high-level open university and serving the lifelong learning progress, and achieve “the university for Jiangsu people”.
Next, delegates listened carefully to special reports by the heads of different departments: Xu Hao delivered a financial report; Liu Huiying made a report on the proposal work; Cheng Lei gave a report on the work and progress of JSOU’s cultural construction, especially the construction of UIS; Li Jian made a progress report on the construction of the new campus and other objectives and tasks during the year.
In the afternoon, representatives were separated to discuss the work reports. Delegates agreed that President Cui’s focused work report comprehensively reflects the exciting achievements in 2021 and brings faith to achieving the future development goals. Delegates also put forward many valuable opinions and suggestions on the construction of teaching staff, teaching and scientific research, cultural construction, livelihood projects, and more.
Secretary Wang Jianming made a speech at the meeting of delegation heads. He stated that the Faculty’s Congress is an important platform for democratic management of the university, through which a channel of communication is built to integrate the wisdom and strength of the whole faculty and staff for pushing forward the cause of our university. While the achievements of 2021 are gratifying, the cause is still at the critical moment of “climbing the hill and crossing the hurdle”. The general tone of 2022 is to make steady progress. All work should be done strictly and carefully, and security and stability should always be highlighted. On this basis, the work target for 2022 can be completed. Secretary Wang also pointed out that we should be full of confidence in the future, especially cultural and historical confidence. We must promote the development of the university’s undertakings, faculty and students altogether.
The meeting called for the faculty and staff to take “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” as the guide, implement the spirit of JSOU’s Second Party Committee Congress, promote the progress of the “14th Five-Year Plan”, and gather around the university’s core work, together greeting the victory of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
