JSOU Held the Second Congress of Youth League Committee

On the morning of March 26th, the Second Congress of Youth League Committee of JSOU was held at Room 406 of Grand Hall, Yingtian Campus. The conference was held on the premise of strictly observing prevention regulations under the pandemic. Present at the meeting were  Jin Lixia, Deputy Secretary of JSOUShi Wei, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Committee of Communist Youth League’s Higher Education Department, other leaders from colleges and departments of the university, and 87 delegates. The meeting was presided over by Yin Xing, Deputy Secretary of JSOU’s Youth League Committee.

This conference is a major event in the political life of League members. Jin Lixia, on behalf of the Party Committee, raised ardent expectations for League organizations and all League members. She urged them to never forget the initial mission of the Chinese Communist Youth League, carry forward the glorious tradition of following the Party, and further strengthen the political, ideological, and emotional identity of the youth. She said, it is necessary to take the challenges posed by a new era. We should actively integrate ourselves into the path of realizing the Chinese Dream, constantly strive to promote the construction of a high-level open university, cultivate extraordinariness in the ordinary, and grow as a JSOUer who “loves their posts, honors the school, and gets dedicated to work”.

Shi Wei, on behalf of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, expressed warm congratulations on the convening of the conference. In his speech, he fully affirmed the achievements made by JSOU’s Youth League Committee in recent years, and put forward some suggestions for leading the youths’ thoughts, deepening the reform, and serving the growth of youth. He pointed out that to unite young people, it is necessary to guide them to strengthen their institutional confidence, and build a strong ideological and political foundation; to consolidate the construction of grass-roots organizations, it is urgent to grasp the opportunities of the time, improve the system and mechanism, and promote the reform of the Youth League; to resolve the actual needs of young people, it is crucial to deepen the mechanism of practical education, launch exemplary service projects, and pave a way for their growth.

Ding Yuesheng, on behalf of JSOU’s Labor Union, praised that the League organizations at all levels have gathered closely around the core work of the university. They have grasped the characteristics of the youth, proceeded from the actuality of students, and made important contributions to the development of the school and the cultivation of talents. Remarkable achievements thus have been made in improving organizational functions, serving the needs of youth, and leading youth to make contributions. As such, a large number of outstanding League members committed to their studies, diligent and enterprising, brave and creative, have emerged, playing a vanguard role among all students.

Many sister universities and institutions sent congratulatory letters to the conference, as they were unable to attend in person due to Covid-19.

At the first plenary meeting, Bao Huijun, Secretary of the Youth League Committee, delivered a work report to the conference entitled “Building a New Era, Striving for a New Journey, Contributing Youth Power to the Construction of a High-level Open University”. She reviews the work since the First Congress from four aspects: ideological guidance, deepening reform, serving the youth, and serving the overall situation. In addition, she analyzes the new situation, challenges, and directions faced by the Youth League in the new era, and puts forward requirements for further cultivating JSOU students into those who can practice new ideas, are brave to take responsibility, and develop in an all-round way.

After listening to the work report, delegates held heated discussions in groups, and the heads of each delegation summarized their opinions and reported to the Presidium. The members of the Presidium reached a resolution on the work report.

At the second plenary meeting, the delegates reviewed and passed the resolution on the work report of the First Committee, and elected members of the Second Committee of JSOU’s Youth League.

Afterwards, the first plenary meeting of JSOU’s Second Youth League Committee was held. Fifteen newly elected members attended the meeting, which was presided over by Bao Huijun. 7 members of the Second Standing Committee, 1 Secretary, 1 Deputy Secretary, and 3 part-time Deputy Secretaries were elected.

In the end, Jin Lixia congratulated on the success of the Congress, as well as the new leadership and newly-elected members. She said that this Congress was held on the occasion of welcoming the 20th National Congress and celebrating the centenary of the founding of the Youth League, which was of great significance. The newly-elected members should lead all young people in the school to make full use of their work experience in the Youth League Committee, guide grass-roots organizations in brand building, and construct a platform for the growth of youths to empower a high-level open university. Jin Lixia encouraged everyone to turn their enthusiasm and passion into practices with higher spirit, broader thinking, and more pragmatic attitude, living up to our school spirit.
