On the morning of May 21st, Jiangsu Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Education was successfully held at Jiangsu Open University. This Symposium is sponsored by Jiangsu Association of Artificial Intelligence (JSAI) and jointly organized by JSAI’s Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence Education, Jiangsu Open University, and Nanjing Normal University. It aims to build an exchange platform between AI and intelligent education, promote the development of research and industrialization of AI education and intelligent education technology, and empower the development of higher education. The Symposium was broadcast live online through Tencent Meeting. More than 100 scholars, including researchers from universities of Jiangsu Province, all full-time teachers from the School of Information and Electrical Engineering of JSOU, and teachers from other relevant departments, joined the Symposium.
Professor Geng Huantong, Vice President of JSOU, delivered a welcome speech at the Symposium, in which he introduced JSOU's history, educational orientation, and development plan. Rooted in Jiangsu province, with serving lifelong learning as its tenet and supported by modern information technology, JSOU, as a new type of higher institution. is open to the public for academic and non-academic continue education and undergraduate education under the guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s idea of “Anyone can learn anywhere, anytime”. It is hoped that this Symposium can promote the in-depth exchanges and cooperation between JSOU and JSAI, as well as experts and scholars in the field of AI education, thus promoting the quality development of JSOU.
Professor Chen Enhong from University of Science and Technology of China gave a keynote speech entitled The Status Quo and Prospect of Adaptive Learning Technology in Intelligent Education. He noted that in recent years, with the rapid development of intelligent education system, more learners participate in independent online learning, and at the same time, have accumulated a large amount of educational learning data. It is now an important task to understand how to use these data to develop intelligent education that integrates big data and AI technology, and provide effective intelligent services for learners.
In his report, Professor Du Junping of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications introduced cross-modal technology and intelligent analysis of educational big data. Focusing on the application trend of AI in the fields of science, technology and education, and aiming at the problems faced by science and technology services, he expounded on the modeling theory and analysis method of big data in science and technology, the big data service platform for open and collaborative technology, and data resource fusion method, as well as the latest research results of big data query and retrieval in science and technology in different scenarios such as for researchers, for enterprise innovation, and for research management.
Professor Zhang Wensheng from the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences made an interpretation report of AI education in the era of big data: How to carry out AI education? What is the essence of AI? What are the eternal themes of AI research? What research results are still important today? How to look forward to the research hotspots and emphases of AI in the future, especially regarding how to develop industrial applications and make AI benefit mankind? With these questions, Professor Zhang gave an explanation on the development status of AI home and abroad over the past 60 years, the analysis of AI, and the practice of AI education.
In the end, Zhu Yi, Dean of the School of Information and Electrical Engineering of Jiangsu Open University concluded that, the success of this Symposium broadened the horizons for AI and intelligent education in our university. He thanked all the staff who assisted the organization of the Symposium and sincerely invited the experts and scholars to visit Jiangsu Open University for guidance.
This Symposium sets up a professional platform for scholars and teachers engaged in AI and intelligent education research, effectively promotes the cooperation and sharing of research results in the fields of AI and intelligent education in colleges and universities, and offer new insights for the construction of academic discipline in the School of Information and Electrical Engineering. It is also conducive to further promoting the communication and cooperation between our school and other universities in China, and the quality development of talent cultivation and scientific research.
