On the recent 2022 Graduation Ceremony of JSOU, Luo Daiyu, Commissar of Yancheng Missile Frigate, a partner unit, and Yang Shijie, a representative of the graduates, attended the meeting online and deliver a video speech. Officers and soldiers of Yancheng Missile Frigate watched the ceremony on board together.
In 2019, under the leadership of School Party Committee and administration, JSOU set up the Supporting the Army with Education project, focusing on improving the academic qualifications of officers and soldiers, strengthening the combat effectiveness, supporting the national defense cause, exploring more open and flexible education mode and teaching forms, and promoting lifelong education.
Since the Yancheng Missile Frigate was commissioned, it has successfully completed more than 40 major training tasks, creating many firsts for the Navy. Especially for the escort mission in Syria of chemical weapons shipping, it has received video condolences from President Xi Jinping.
Guarding the borders and the sea, the students of the Yancheng Missile Frigate ride the tide and fight the waves. At the same time, however, the academic progress of them at JSOU was confronted by the challenges of limited free time and inconvenient networking. In response to this, while in accordance with the requirements of normalized COVID-19 prevention, the Department of Teaching and Research of our school fully considers the special situation of the troops, carefully studies the needs and difficulties of officers and students, and establishes a personalized teaching support service mechanism. First, it worked with Yancheng Open University, relevant departments and colleges to formulate a special Supporting the Army with Education project implementation plan. The second was to coordinate online and offline teaching activities and resources through discussions, and carefully develop curriculum materials and electronic resources suitable for naval cadets. The third was to send teachers from Yancheng Open University and related colleges to the Frigate for three times, answering questions for students, arranging course exams, guiding thesis writing, conducting graduation defenses, and solving students’ academic difficulties. Fourth, waiving registration fees, credit fees, examination fees and others for military students, and implementing the spirit of supporting and loving the army. Thanks to the unremitting efforts of all parties, in June this year, 18 junior college and 7 undergraduate crew members of the Yancheng Missile Frigate graduated as scheduled, and 3 of them obtained their bachelor's degrees.
Based on co-construction with the Yancheng Missile Frigate, JSOU has successively provided quality and personalized academic education services for many navy and army units. Our school will uphold the idea of Jiangsu People's University, rely closely on the Party and the government, strengthen cooperation with relevant departments, innovate the form of teaching, and optimize learning. We will help army students to realize their dream of academics, strive to realize anyone can learn, anywhere, anytime, and serve the lifelong education of the whole people.
