On the morning of June 18th, the Class of 2022 Commencement of Jiangsu Open University (Jiangsu City Vocational College) was held at the Grand Hall of Yingtian Campus both online and offline. Party Secretary Wang Jianming, President Cui Xinyou and other school leaders witnessed the graduation of 10,672 open students and 6,863 vocational graduates at the main venue. All graduates gathered on the cloud to share their youthfulness and accept sincere wishes from all teachers and students. The Commencement was presided over by Jin Lixia, JSOU’s Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President.
The academic scepter marks the highest academic power of a university, representing the loftiness and holiness of knowledge and bearing the hope and blessing of the university. The welcome of the scepter, the throwing of graduation caps and the turning of graduation tassels have become the new highlights this year. President Professor Cui Xinyou, the Director of Academic Committee, walked slowly into the venue with the academic scepter, and other officiating professors followed the guidance of the academic scepter in all participants’ attention.
The Ceremony officially kicked off in the National Anthem of the People's Republic of China. President Cui Xinyou gave all graduates a last lecture with profound connotation and sincere emotion. He pointed out that the current changing world and the international situation are severe and complicated. Students has overcome many difficulties to complete their studies and now start a new journey relying on spirit: lifelong learning for all has become an irreversible social trend and the spirit of the times. By broadcasting the speech of Yu Minhong, Chairman of New Oriental, and taking renowned entrepreneurs and alumni start-up businessmen as examples, President Cui encouraged students to have both Chinese patriotism and international vision. He stressed that it is necessary to always bear in mind the educational aim of all-round development at JSOU and social responsibility while fighting for dreams. Finally, he put forward three sincere suggestions to the graduates: first, don't be an opportunist, but a doer; second, don't be a lone wolf, but a teammate; third, don't give up, but remember the spirit of perseverance. President Cui called on all students to dare to think and do, fight and forge ahead, until one day achieving their goals.
Deputy Secretary Jin Lixia sent an affectionate message to all the graduates by citing General Secretary Xi Jinping's earnest entrustment to the youth, asking the students to live up to their youth, the times, and the people, run hard on the track of youth, and strive to achieve the best results. Vice President Niu Yutao announced the Outstanding Graduates of Class of 2022 and Vice President Zhang Xiao broadcast the list of bachelor's degree awardees, and Vice President You Jiachun revealed the namelist of 2022 alumni liaisons. All school leaders joined to issue honorary certificates to outstanding graduates, diplomas to junior college graduates, and award degrees to undergraduate graduates.
Professor Zhu Yi, Dean of School of Information and Electrical Engineering, delivered a speech as teacher representative, encouraging students to keep an open mind, use data thinking and contribute to their youth by believing in science, reason and themselves. Wang Hailing, the representative of the academic advisor and teacher from Suqian Open University, has accompanied more than 1000 students since 2010 to successfully complete their studies. She brought a parting message: I hope that the students will live up to the great trust of the times, learn how to survive, achieve the meaning of life, establish the foundation of life, and make extraordinary achievements through lifelong learning. Xu Xiaojuan, an alumnus representative from the School of Public Management, shared her valuable experience in studying, working and living at Jiangsu Open University. As a graduate representative from Jiangdu Open University, Xue Guixian, a master student of Yangzhou University majoring in ideological and political education, encouraged younger students to pursue dreams with practical actions, took learning as a lifelong topic, and bravely stepped out of their comfort zone by facing difficulties and developing in multiple dimensions. Gesang, a graduate representative and minority student from the School of Environmental and Ecology, brought her graduation speech via video from her hometown of Tibet. She not only achieved excellent results in the junior college study, but also completed nine open undergraduate courses in advance in her spare time. While achieving success in learning, she looked forward to assisting rural revitalization, practicing knowledge to change destiny, and learning for a better life.
Before the end of the Ceremony, all teachers and students watched the touching and warm graduation MV, which flashed back the youth of the students; at the end, all teachers and students sang the school anthem Song of Phoenix together with the school mascot MOMO. Students who have obtained bachelor's degrees in 2022 throw their caps high. Cheers rose one after another at the scene, and beautiful moments will be forever fixed in the camera.
