On September 22nd, the Education Department of Jiangsu Province held a press conference on the overall achievements of lifelong education, especially the reform and development of community education, in Jiangsu Province since the 18th CPC National Congress, as well as notable practices and experiences. JSOU’s President Cui Xinyou was invited to the press conference and answer questions from reporters on the spot.
Cao Yumei, Deputy Director of the Education Department of Jiangsu, introduced the development of lifelong education in our province since the 18th CPC National Congress. In the past decade, Jiangsu has formed a five-level community education system with “Jiangsu Open University as the leader, open universities (community universities) and community colleges at all levels as the backbone, and community education centers and resident schools as the main body”, reaching to the last kilometer of lifelong education. She pointed out that the effect of lifelong education in Jiangsu is mainly reflected in seven aspects, including the five-level community education system, the digital platform to support lifelong learning, the curriculum resources, etc. Ms. Cao said that we will implement the new development concept, strive to promote the high-quality development of community education in the whole province, and make new contributions to building an open and inclusive lifelong education system, writing a new chapter in the modernization of Jiangsu.
At the press conference, President Cui answered reporters’ questions on How Jiangsu Open University can better serve lifelong education by summarizing the contributions made by our university to lifelong education in Jiangsu in the past decade. He said that the last decade of lifelong education development in Jiangsu is also when JSOU gets renamed and constructed. The university has always promoted the three elements of university, system and platform as a whole, constantly strengthening the system construction and serving the lifelong learning of the whole people. It focuses on serving the needs of Jiangsu's social, economic and cultural development and the requirements of Jiangsu's modernization, which has become a platform for building lifelong learning for all and a support for the construction of a learning society. Meanwhile, JSOU innovates and develops community education and education for the aged, and assumes the leading responsibility of community education in the province. Also, the university has accelerated the construction of Credit Bank for Lifelong Education as an overpass for lifelong education. President Cui told reporters that in the future, the role and form of JSOU will be well positioned, and it will be an explorer of the reform of teaching methods, a provider of continuing education services, a promoter of the construction of a learning society and a practitioner of educational equity.
