On September 22nd, Wutong Shuhua, a TV program jointly created by Jiangsu Open University and Phoenix Publishing & Media Group (PPMG) to promote reading and its first episode, Daily Reading of the Analects of Confucius started filming in the studio of the University. JSOU’s Vice President Zhang Xiao, staff members of PPMG, and a host of Jiangsu Education Channel, attended the ceremony. Zhang Zhihui, Director of JSOU’s Resource Construction Center, presided over the event.
The main purpose of Wutong Shuhua is to recommend books. The content of the program covers literature, history, popular science, finance, education and other fields. Through recommended books in each episode, the program aims to introduce hot topics, share knowledge, convey emotions, promote reading culture and lead the trend of reading.
In her speech, Vice President Zhang Xiao expressed her warm welcome to the delegation of PPMG. She said JSOU and PPMG both use Phoenix as a cultural symbol, and share a common value pursuit in cultural inheritance and innovation, serving the lifelong learning of all people in Jiangsu. Since the signing of strategic cooperation agreement earlier this year, JSOU and PPMG have been promoting the landing of the project. Wutong Shuhua is another landmark after the Phoenix Bookshelf project. In the future, JSOU will continue taking books and IT technology as the medium, together heading for a steady and far-reaching relationship with PPMG like two phoenixes flying side by side.
As regards the first episode, Vice President Zhang quoted Mr. Xu Zhuoyun, a historian: “What Chinese culture makes us proud is not to inspire or assimilate its neighbors, but to have the capacity to accommodate and digest. She also expressed her expectation for the first episode Daily Reading of the Analects of Confucius, saying that Confucian thought carried through The Analects of Confucius was the core of Chinese culture. Audience can definitely find answers to questions like why our civilization is introverted, tolerant, tough and introspective, and why the Chinese nation won't collapse in the most difficult time, nor brag in the proudest time.
Xu Hai, editor-in-chief of Jiangsu Phoenix Publishing and Media Co., Ltd, said, as the establishment of “Phoenix Bookshelf” has been warmly welcomed by teachers and students, “Wutong Shuhua” will bring more surprises to everyone. While the society is moving towards a value remodeling system, the first episode of the program is strictly selected. PPMG and JSOU are carrying forward the spirit and teaching philosophy of Confucius in the process of cooperation. It is hoped that the two parties can dedicate better books to the faculty and staff of JSOU, and make contributions to the modernization, and prosperity of China.
The two sides will take this program to carry out further cooperation in the fields of curriculum construction, textbook development, social education, etc., and take serving lifelong learning for all as their duty, so as to empower and increase efficiency for the construction of lifelong education system for all.
