On October 13th, the Digital Library Training Session for Jiangsu Open University System (aka. the Inaugural Meeting of Jiangsu Open University System Library Consortium) was held in Nanjing. Cui Xinyou, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of JSOU, and Wu Guanglin, Vice President, led the meeting, which was presided over by Xie Dongbing, Director of JSOU Library.
To begin with, Wu Guanglin gave a speech to introduce the background and necessity of holding the Training Session, focusing on its task and mission. Cui Xinyou made a keynote speech, and expounded the service and sharing attributes of JSOU Library from the elements of university, system and platform. He pointed out that open universities under Jiangsu Open University System make a community, and building an intelligent digital library that can provide resources support for scientific research, teaching and cultural activities for the community is an important guarantee for the future development of the entire system. Combined with the Three-Step strategy and Twelve Key Projects determined by the second Party Congress of JSOU, he made an in-depth exposition from three aspects: first, the level of scientific research is the key for breakthrough; second, renowned teachers are the cultural leaders of open universities; third, it is a must to strive to build an academic and cultural community. He proposed to build the Library as a book resource center, an academic service center and a cultural promotion and exchange center, serving all open universities in Jiangsu.
Shen Kuilin, Director of System Support Department of Nanjing University Library, gave a lecture on Smart Library and Distance Education. He emphatically introduced What is an intelligent library, What does the intelligent library mean for distance and open education, What is metauniverse and intelligent library, etc. With solid practical experience and rich professional knowledge, Shen depicts the present picture, future features and the Metauniverse, which presents a refreshing future library for online and offline audiences. Sun Lei, Director of Digital Resources and Technical Support Department of JSOU Library, delivered a report on Utilization of Digital Resources, describing in detail the online resources construction and latest progress of JSOU Library, as well as how to better take advantage of its digital resources.
On the afternoon, the Inaugural Meeting of Jiangsu Open University System Library Consortium was held. Jiang Liwen, Deputy Director of JSOU Library shared the preparations for the Consortium, and Director Xie Dongbing interpreted the Charter. According to the articles of the Consortium, the meeting elected the board of directors, executive directors, chairman, vice-chairman and secretary-general. Wu Guanglin was elected as Chairman, in whose speech he asked the directors to carefully study the articles of the Consortium and keep in mind their duties and missions; to learn the related knowledge of building digital and intelligent libraries, and improve their abilities; to cooperate and act positively.
Afterwards, the Extended Meeting of Executive Council was held, deputy secretary-generals were elected, and the work plan was discussed. Wu Guanglin answered the questions raised in the discussion, made an overall plan for the work of the Consortium after its establishment, put forward the general requirements for formulating a three-year work plan, and made specific arrangements for the short-term goals from now till April 2023.
The establishment of the Consortium is a milestone of JSOU this year, a pragmatic project to realize the sharing of Jiangsu Open University System resources and serve all teachers and students. The establishment of the Consortium provides a new organization and talent guarantee for the integration of library resources and the System resources in all open universities in Jiangsu.
