5th Student Sports Meet of Open Universities in Jiangsu was Held in Kunshan

On May 12th, the 5th Student Sports Meet of Open Universities in Jiangsu grandly opened at Kunshan Open University, with 411 vocational and open student athletes from 19 teams in the province participating. Jing Xuan, Party Secretary of Jiangsu Open University, announced the opening of the Sports Meet, while Cui Xinyou, President of Jiangsu Open University, and Qin Weixi, Vice Mayor of Kunshan, delivered welcome speeches.

President Cui said that the Sports Meet, as a tradition, has distinctive features and is welcomed by open universities at all levels as an iconic event. Qin Weixi, on behalf of Kunshan Municipal Government, extended warm congratulations on the success of the Sports Meet and sincere welcome to all the guests and athletes from afar, wishing all the athletes excellent results. Liu Peilong, a teacher of Kunshan Open University, and Yan Gaoya, an athlete, solemnly swore on behalf of the referees and athletes respectively.

The theme of this year’s Sports Meet is Meet again in Kunshan and run a new track. In the one-and-a-half-day event, athletes compete for skills, strength, speed and perseverance, whether in varsity or recreational sports. The athletes from all open universities not only showed their competency and spirits, but also fully embodied the team spirit and showed their youthful enthusiasm.

The sports meet was successfully concluded on the morning of May 13th. Jin Lixia, Deputy Secretary of JSOU’s Party Committee made a closing speech. She fully affirmed that all the agenda of the Sports Meet were successfully completed and achieved the expected results, showing the youthful and energetic athleticism and healthy and uplifting mental outlook of the times. She encouraged everyone to put their indomitable will, tenacious fighting spirit, and teamwork demonstrated  in their study and work.

At this year’s Sports Meet, athletes promoted the Olympic spirit and Chinese sportsmanship, with a total of 2 people breaking 2 records of the game. Kunshan Open University won the first place in the total score and was awarded the Best Organization Award. Nine teams, including Jiangsu Open University, won the Sports Morality Award.
