On April 29th, the School of Art, Qinhuai Intangible Heritage Museum, and Yangzhou Hanjiang Ancient Books Printing House jointly held an art exhibition of thread-bound ancient books reconstruction. The exhibition is hosted by the Department of Culture and Leisure, and students of Leisure Service and Management major participated in the planning, arrangement, and public education.
The exhibition is closely related to the 28th World Reading Day and Nanjing as UNESCO’s City of Literature, combined with the characteristics of the School’s Drama major. Under the guidance of teacher Meng Yao, the students participated in the planning of theme activities, the selection of exhibits, site investigation, exhibition design, exhibition arrangement, tour guide, etc., and finally displayed nearly 60 kinds and more than 300 volumes of reconstructed thread-bound ancient books, as well as carved and overprinted pages according to the rare Song editions collected by the National Library and other \ engraved prints. In the style of classical China study room, the exhibition invited famous scholars, professors and calligraphers to carry out integrated exhibition design, creating a strong scholarly atmosphere and allowing the audience to immerse themselves in the beauty of traditional culture.
At the exhibition, while reading the texts of classical literature, audience can also feel the ingenuity behind the complicated process of making each ancient book, and experience the beauty of words, layout, and binding of ancient books. In the experience area, students guide the audience to experience the engraving printing technology. The audience can not only experience the engraving printing process, but also take the printed production home, adding a fragrance of books to their study and living places.
