On November 9th-10th, the 8th Academic Forum on New Perspective of Lifelong Education sponsored by Jiangsu Open University and hosted by the Institute of Education Sciences was successfully held in Nanjing. Focusing on "Integration of the Humanities and Economy: the Role of Education", the Forum discusses the can-dos and will-dos of education with the integration of the humanities and economy under the background of Chinese modernization. More than 40 experts, scholars and doctors from nearly 30 universities and research institutions attended the forum. Jing Xuan, Secretary of JSOU’s Party Committee, gave a keynote speech, and Hang Zhuhong, Vice President, delivered a welcome speech.
Jing Xuan's speech is entitled "Education Empowers the Integration of the Humanities and Economy". He emphasized that education is the cause of cultivating people and is closely related to culture and economy. The integration and development of the humanities and economy aims at satisfying people's yearning for a better life, which is rooted in traditional Chinese culture and inseparable from the prosperity and symbiosis of culture and economy. To build a new stage for mutual nourishment among education, the humanities and economy, education should give full play to its role in talent cultivation, cultural inheritance and economic development, thus empowering the coexistence of the humanities and economy.
Ma Luting from China National Academy of Educational Sciences, presented a keynote speech of "Education is a Solid Soft Power". He said that education inherits the national genes. As a big country with 5,000 years of civilization, China's development cannot be separated from education, as improving the national quality is the cornerstone of a harmonious and stable society.
During the Forum, participating experts and scholars shared their latest research results from the perspectives of coordinated development of population and education, integration of production and education in vocational education, continuing education, technological innovation and risk avoidance in the digital age, and community education under the background of aging.
The convening of this Forum is of great significance for promoting the development of lifelong education in China. To deepen the research of lifelong education, we must not only serve the national development strategy, but also take root in grassroots practice. Facing the tide of digital development, lifelong education should also actively respond to the call of the times of educational reform and actively embrace the new digital era.
