On January 30th, the inauguration ceremony of the Jiangsu Elderly Culture and Learning Alliance, a.k.a. the launch ceremony of the Senior Learning Platform, took place in Nanjing. The Alliance was planned and coordinated by the Jiangsu Research Association for the Development of Aging Affairs and jointly founded by multiple departments, including Jiangsu Open University, with the aim to integrate elderly learning resources, expand the supply of first-class learning resources for seniors, satisfy the increasingly, diversified learning needs of a vast number of elderly people in Jiangsu Province, and establish a quality elderly learning service system.
JSOU’s President Ding Rongyu attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. He said, the Alliance, as an innovative response to population aging in Jiangsu, is dedicated to consolidating forces for development, fostering consensus on ideas, establishing platforms for collaboration, and integrating premium resources. Since 1999, JSOU has been exploring open education for the elderly. After nearly 25 years of practical exploration, we have seen notable achievements in this field, including relatively rich digital resources and innovative educational service carriers. We were also a pioneer in hosting senior undergraduate education nationwide, awarding bachelor's degrees to over 200 elderly students. Moving forward, JSOU will fully leverage its advantages in smart digital resources and platforms to effectively undertake the development and construction of elderly learning resources within the Alliance, constantly expanding the provision of high-quality learning resources for seniors and developing more brands and specialized courses tailored for the elderly. By guiding open universities and learning centers in Jiangsu Province, training volunteers, completing the systems for elderly registration and storage of learning outcomes, and deepening the reform of the credit bank system, JSOU will actively contribute to the construction and development of the Alliance, working diligently to build a quality elderly learning service system in Jiangsu.
In recent years, JSOU has been an active force in the construction of national Senior University system, especially in the construction of the Jiangsu Senior Open University and the Jiangsu Branch of the National Senior University. Meanwhile, we uphold a high level of openness and collaboration, gathering resources and strengths from various parties to jointly advance elderly education. In the future, the university will continue to explore and promote innovation in elderly education, consistently working on the development of the Jiangsu Branch of the National Senior University and Jiangsu Senior Open University, advancing education equity, serving lifelong learning for all in Jiangsu, contributing to the construction of a learning society, and fulfilling our leadership responsibilities in social education.
