On the traditional Double Ninth Festival, October 11th, the Joyful Aging and Cultural Inheritance - Grandparents and Grandchildren Reading Together 2024 Public Welfare Campaign was launched at Phoenix International Bookstore. This event, guided by Jiangsu Elderly Civilization Learning Alliance and co-organized by Jiangsu Open University, Jiangsu Universal Reading Promotion Association, and other partners, aims to promote intergenerational cultural exchange and reading habits. Numerous leaders and experts from various sectors attended the opening ceremony, which was hosted by Li Zhengqian from Jiangsu TV City Channel.
The “Grandparents and Grandchildren Reading Together” initiative offers a carefully designed curriculum that caters to different age groups, fostering reading habits and curiosity about the world. Through joint recitations, sharing sessions, and lectures by scholars, the campaign enhances emotional connections and passes down cultural heritage across generations. The activities not only cultivate children who are sunny, brave, rational, and emotionally rich but also promote the health and longevity of the elderly through joyful reading experiences.
The event featured an atmosphere brimming with poetry and laughter, where families gathered to celebrate this culturally rich moment. President Ding Rongyu of Jiangsu Open University highlighted in his speech that the campaign seeks to carry forward excellent traditional Chinese culture, support healthy aging, and contribute to building a society of lifelong learning. By promoting the Grandparents and Grandchildren Reading Together project, the organizers aim to bridge generational gaps, convey the power of knowledge, and foster family education and traditions, while also contributing wisdom and strength to social harmony.
Through this initiative, the organizers hope to create a platform for intergenerational cultural exchange, allowing knowledge to transcend age boundaries and connecting two generations with love and respect.
