Recently, the much-anticipated finals of the 2024 Innovative Jiangsu Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Competition in the field of modern agriculture concluded in Xuyi County. Students from our School of Information Engineering—Tsring Chuzom, Chen Xuanyou, and Liu Yifeng—emerged victorious with their project Solar Thermal Greenhouse: A Vegetable Basket at the Doorstep of Plateau Residents, securing the top prize in the innovation category of the modern agriculture track.
Organized jointly by the Provincial Association for Science and Technology, the Provincial Taiwan Affairs Office, the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Provincial Federation of Trade Unions and the Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, this year’s competition centered on the theme of Self-reliance in Science and Technology and Development Driven by Dual Innovation. It attracted a total of 953 projects from across the province, spanning six sectors including information technology, equipment manufacturing, new materials, life sciences, modern agriculture, and food science. Ultimately, 150 projects advanced to the finals, with only six winning first prizes in the modern agriculture sector.
During the final presentation, the team showcased how solar thermal greenhouses can uniquely extend crop growing seasons and increase yields per acre in high-altitude cold regions, providing convenient vegetable supplies to plateau residents. This innovative solution was highly praised by the judges for its practical value and social significance.
The competition also featured a Collaborative Innovation Forum and Expert-Enterprise Roundtable, offering a platform for teams and enterprises to connect and collaborate. The college team actively participated, engaging in deep discussions with multiple companies and research institutions, laying a solid foundation for further development and promotion of their project.
Going forward, the School of Information Engineering will continue to uphold its philosophy of fostering education through research, learning through practice, and training through competitions. It aims to cultivate more high-caliber talents with innovative spirit and practical skills, promote collaboration between industry, academia, and research, and facilitate the incubation of scientific and technological achievements, thereby driving deeper integration of the education chain, talent chain, industrial chain, and innovation chain.
