To enhance the quality of the Preschool Education program and cultivate skilled professionals in the field, the 2nd Skills Competition for JSOU System’s Preschool Education Students was successfully held on October 19 at Wuxi Open University. Hosted by JSOU and organized by WOU, the event featured leadership from both universities, industry experts, and representatives from municipal and county-level open universities.
Building on the 1st Competition's categories of Preschool Song Accompaniment, Dance Performance, Preschool Storytelling, and Preschool Art Creation, this year's event introduced a new category, “Curricular Presentation”. The addition aimed to guide students in integrating their skills into early childhood teaching, supporting developmental goals in areas such as language, arts, and health.
The competition brought together 14 teams and 47 participants from across the province, showcasing their talents in the five categories. Among them, Liu Chengying from Huai’an District Open University, the competition’s oldest contestant with 41 years of teaching experience, described her participation as a meaningful milestone. Jin Jing, a 2020 Spring-term student from Dongtai Open University, shared how she creatively integrated a story and dance about peacocks to inspire children's imagination and creativity. The competition concluded with 6 First Prizes, 9 Second Prizes, and 13 Third Prizes in individual categories, along with team and instructor awards. Wuxi Open University, Rugao Open University, and Changzhou Open University received awards for Outstanding Organization.
According to JSOU’s policies, students who won Second Prizes or higher can transfer their accolades to credits in courses such as Language Education for Preschool Children or Art Education for Preschool Children. The competition served as a platform for skill development, fostering professional growth among students and educators while strengthening the JSOU system's cohesion and advancing high-quality development in Preschool Education.
