JSOU Approved as Experimental School for Characteristic Projects of Elderly Universities by the China Adult Education Association

From November 26-28, the special project for senior universities, hosted by the China Adult Education Association and co-organized by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education and Chengdu Open University, was officially launched in Chengdu. Key leaders present at the opening ceremony included Cui Bangyan, Vice President of the China Adult Education Association; Cai Cunming, Director of the Extracurricular Education Supervision Department of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education; and Zhong Fuchun, Vice President of Chengdu Open University. Participants included representatives from educational administrative departments, regular universities, vocational colleges, senior universities, and related departments across the country. Zhang Qiong, Party Secretary of the School of Senior Development at Jiangsu Open University, also attended the event.

During the training, renowned experts and scholars from various industries in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, and Lanzhou gathered to focus on the theme of high-quality development in elderly education and pathways for distinctive construction of elderly universities. Through keynote presentations, group discussions, centralized reports, and on-site learning, combined with analyses of classic case studies from different regions, the training will offer a rich and diverse program that is cutting-edge, up-to-date, and engaging for the participating units and trainees.

The special project for senior universities, initiated by the China Adult Education Association , will span three years. The project aims to develop a number of high-quality institutions by focusing on distinctive directions. This initiative seeks to contribute to the national strategy for actively addressing population aging. Additionally, the project will deepen theoretical research and actively promote the transformation of research outcomes into practical applications. The ultimate goal is to lead the scientific development of elderly education in China.

The School of Elderly Development at Jiangsu Open University actively submitted proposals aligned with the institution's priorities and distinctive projects in elderly education. It was ultimately approved as an Experimental School for Characteristic Projects of Elderly Universities by the China Adult Education Association. In the next phase, the school will utilize the two approved projects to conduct thorough research, set specific goals, create detailed action plans, and intensify scientific research and promotional activities. By doing so, the school aims to make substantial progress in establishing an open university for the elderly, striving to become a model institution that contributes innovative ideas and best practices to the characteristic construction of elderly education.
