To put into practice the student-centered educational philosophy, JSOU listens to students' voices and responds to their concerns through various forms of engagement—most notably, face-to-face meetings between university leaders and students. The goal is to address the most important issue concerning school development: how to support students’ growth and success.
On April 16, 2025, Party Committee Secretary and President Ding Rongyu, along with Party Committee member and Vice President Hang Zhuhong, visited the “One-stop” Student Community Service Center at Yingtian Campus. They engaged in a unique and meaningful dialogue with student representatives from different grades, focusing on issues of concern to students. Heads of relevant departments—including the Student Affairs Office, Academic Affairs Office, and Logistics Management Office—also attended the meeting.
University leaders warmly greeted each arriving student, and their approachable demeanor quickly created a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Students became more open and began sharing their experiences, expressing gratitude for what they had gained during their time at school, discussing academic challenges, and raising suggestions and concerns regarding campus facilities, course offerings, accommodation, dining services, further education, and career planning.
During the exchange, university leaders paid close attention to every question and suggestion raised by the students, offering patient and detailed responses. President Ding emphasized that all departments should take student feedback seriously, act proactively, promptly initiate problem-solving procedures, clarify responsible parties and deadlines, and ensure that students’ reasonable needs are effectively addressed. He also encouraged student representatives to lead by example, inspiring their peers to work together toward fostering a positive, civilized, and harmonious academic and campus culture.
Vice President Hang stated that the university will regularly organize such face-to-face meetings to build a bridge of communication and better understand students' urgent needs and expectations. Students were also encouraged to provide feedback through both online and offline channels, and the university pledged to continue addressing their concerns and resolving practical issues in a timely manner.
At the meeting, everyone read together a famous quote from Pavel Korchagin: A person’s life should be lived in such a way that when he looks back upon it, he will have no cause for regret at having wasted his years, nor will he feel ashamed at having accomplished nothing. Leaders encouraged students to strive for progress, cherish their time, acquire knowledge, and improve themselves, so as to write their own remarkable stories during their youthful years.
