From April 8 to 11, the Stage Set Design event of the 2025 Jiangsu Province Vocational Colleges Skills Competition was successfully held at Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology. The competition was organized by 15 institutions including the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission. A total of 93 students from 31 schools across the province participated in the competition.

Three students from the Interior Art Design program at the School of Design — Dong Ruxue, Zhou Zhifu, and Hao Ziheng, guided by teachers Li Yan and Liu Na, won the second prize with the fifth-highest score.

The competition included three parts: drawing stage design sketches by hand, using computer-aided design software, and presenting the design proposal on site.

Participants were required to complete four core tasks within 3 hours. They also had to present their design concepts and proposals on site within 5–10 minutes.

The college highly valued the competition and provided full support for the team’s preparation in terms of policy, training equipment, and funding. Dean Xie Dongbing encouraged the participants at a pre-competition meeting, urging them to stay confident, work hard, and keep improving during the competition.

Vice Dean Zhou Ying visited the preparation site to help the students improve their designs and professional skills.

The participating team worked closely together, faced challenges, analyzed the competition tasks carefully, and adopted a strategy of “modular training + full simulation.” They gradually overcame difficulties such as time management and cross-software collaboration, forming a closed-loop training system that combined creativity, technology, and presentation.

In the end, the team demonstrated excellent technical ability and innovative design, showcasing the teaching quality and talent development outcomes of the School of Design in the field of arts and culture.
