On the afternoon of April 9, the School of Design welcomed four distinguished guests from afar at the third-floor meeting on East Dinghuaimen Campus — Mr. Zhang Teng, Assistant to the China Affairs President and Director of Jiangsu International Affairs Center of Krirk University from Thailand, along with Deputy Director Xu Shijin and their delegation.
The exchange meeting was hosted by Associate Dean Meng Gang. Present at the meeting were Dean Xie Dongbing, Associate Dean Zhou Ying, Dean’s Assistant Li Ruiwen, Office Director Guo Haiyan, as well as four full-time faculty members currently pursuing doctoral degrees in Thailand.
At the beginning of the meeting, Xie Dongbing extended a warm welcome to the visiting guests and gave a detailed introduction to the historical development, educational philosophy of Jiangsu Open University, and the current status and specialty features of the School of Design.
He explained that the School of Design, leveraging its educational system advantages, actively promotes the integration of open education, social education, and vocational education. The disciplines and majors are closely aligned with current technological trends, focusing on cultivating students' professional skills in cutting-edge areas such as virtual reality, animation production, and interactive design. The school is committed to nurturing interdisciplinary talents who meet the demands of the future digital creative industry.
In recent years, the school has won numerous awards in graphic design, digital media design, interior design, and new media production, forming a unique teaching system and cultivating a lot of professionals with innovative thinking and practical abilities. Its teaching achievements and faculty strength received full recognition from the visiting delegation.
During the session, Zhang Teng introduced Krirk University's general profile and international programs. He said that the university enjoys a good reputation in Southeast Asia due to its international perspective, diverse academic offerings, low language entry requirements, and affordable tuition fees. The university also has distinctive programs in art and design, and communication fields, which align well with the specialties offered by the School of Design. It can provide students with broad development opportunities and rich learning resources.
Ms. Xu Shijin focused on presenting several already-established and mature international cooperation projects of Krirk University. Based on the actual situation of the School of Design, she proposed practical and actionable suggestions for initiating collaboration.
During the discussion, both sides had in-depth exchanges on their featured disciplines and jointly explored potential channels for cooperation. Preliminary agreements were reached, and both parties agreed that through student and faculty exchanges, joint academic seminars, shared teaching resources, faculty degree advancement, and associate-to-bachelor's programs for vocational students, they could leverage each other's strengths and promote mutual development in design-related disciplines.
