On October 18, the 2025 China Marine Economy Forum opened in Weihai, Shandong, focusing on the theme “Green and Low-Carbon Empowerment: Reshaping the New Engine for High-Quality Marine Economic Development”. The event was jointly organized by Shandong University, the Chinese Society of Oceanography, and Ocean University of China. Ding Rongyu, Secretary of the Party Committee of JSOU and Director of the Jiangsu Marine Development Research Center, was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the forum.
In his address titled “Marine Industry Development and Talent Cultivation from an Open Perspective”, Ding emphasized that the marine economy is inherently open and requires cross-sector collaboration and innovative talent development models. He also introduced JSOU and the Research Center’s role in supporting marine-related disciplines and curriculum development, inviting experts and scholars to contribute to Jiangsu’s efforts in advancing its marine economy.
During the forum, Ding joined a roundtable discussion at Shandong University Business School, exchanging views with leaders from marine-focused universities and enterprises on interdisciplinary cooperation and talent chain innovation.
He also gave an interview to Weihai Television, highlighting technology’s role as a core driver in upgrading traditional industries and fostering new marine businesses. The session was covered by media outlets such as Shandong Satellite TV and the Chinese Society of Oceanography.
The China Marine Economy Forum, held since 2017, serves as a key academic platform in the field. JSOU’s participation has raised the university’s profile in marine economy research and provided direction for talent development and discipline construction in this area.
