On May 16, the School of Foreign Languages successfully held its third extracurricular practice event titled "Walking Through the City of Literature, Experiencing the Charm of Poetic Journeys". Twenty open education students majoring in International Chinese Language Education from across the province gathered in Nanjing for a cultural immersion activity. Zhang Binghua, Deputy Director of the School's Committee on Caring for the Next Generation, along with several faculty members from the Chinese International Education Department, joined the event.
The first stop was Zhanyuan Garden, one of the four famous classical gardens in Jiangnan (south of the Yangtze River). Students visited the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom History Museum and admired iconic landscapes including Immortal Peak and Jingmiao Hall, experiencing classical Chinese garden culture.
The group then visited the Chinese Imperial Examination Museum, one of the richest collections of imperial examination artifacts and historical materials. Students explored the exhibition area and the Jiangnan Imperial Examination Hall site, learning about the complete history of the imperial examination system.
Throughout the event, teachers encouraged students to connect classroom learning with practice and consider ways to spread Chinese culture through their professional skills. Students found the experience made traditional culture tangible, broadening their horizons and strengthening their cultural confidence and professional identity.
This event represents an important initiative by the School of Foreign Languages to develop extracurricular practices for open education students, bridging traditional culture and professional learning. Moving forward, the school will continue to leverage Nanjing's cultural resources to offer more quality practice activities, helping students develop professional skills while promoting traditional Chinese culture.
