In response to the national strategy for active aging, Lianyungang Open University continues to enhance its senior education system by improving course quality, delivering off-site programs, and leveraging digital platforms.
Upgraded Course Offerings with Digital Focus
Alongside traditional courses in vocal music and painting and calligraphy, the university has added practical digital skills training such as smartphone use and daily digital applications, supported by easy-to-follow manuals. For the spring 2026 semester, it offers 31 classes in six categories including traditional Chinese medicine health preservation, digital skills, and practical life skills, with digital courses accounting for 30 percent of the total. AI training programs tailored to younger seniors are also under development.
Tailored On-Site Programs for Local Communities
The university provides a menu-based service model, allowing local teaching sites to request specific courses and assigning qualified instructors accordingly. So far this year, over ten such on-site programs have been delivered in community learning centers across Haizhou District, Ganyu District, and Donghai County.
Platforms for Engagement and Participation
The university organizes around 20 events annually, including study tours, painting and calligraphy exhibitions, and student performance showcases. Seniors also participate in city-level and national competitions, as well as volunteer activities such as public performances and calligraphy donation events. These initiatives aim to enrich seniors’ cultural and spiritual lives, supporting them to learn, enjoy, and contribute in their later years.
