From June 2 to 4, JSOU President Zhang Yingchun led a delegation to Huawei Technologies, Shenzhen Polytechnic University, and Guangdong Open University for research visits focused on AI-era talent development and the university's 15th Five-Year Plan. The delegation included staff from the School Office, Development Planning Office, and Academic Affairs Office.
Huawei Technologies
At Huawei's Bantian campus in Shenzhen, the delegation met with Du Min, Vice President of Huawei's Public Sector Business Group and President of the Higher Education Business Group. Du introduced Huawei's AIPL (AI Practice Lab) initiative, which converts real industry scenarios and projects into university courses and training programs, as well as plans for an AI Practice Industry-Education Integration Alliance. President Zhang presented JSOU's four types of education, its province-wide delivery system, the credit bank, and its digital resource and platform strengths. The two sides discussed innovative degree + skills training models, co-building a teaching-practice innovation center, developing a smart campus brand, and joint skills certification training.
Shenzhen Polytechnic University
The delegation was received by Vice President Li Xiaoyuan. The two sides exchanged views on program cluster development, industry-education integration, digital empowerment, and faculty training. As one of China's first vocational undergraduate institutions, Shenzhen Polytechnic follows the reform logic of programs following industry, courses following technology, and teaching methods following scenarios, along with its industry-education integration model and thousand-enterprise survey approach to faculty development. The delegation also toured the School of Digital Media, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and the BYD Applied Technology College. President Zhang noted that Shenzhen Polytechnic's practice of bringing enterprise production lines, project flows, and standards into the campus is a direction JSOU should follow.
Guangdong Open University
The delegation met with President Liu Wenqing. The two sides discussed breakthroughs in educational level, vocational-lifelong education integration, lifelong learning legislation, senior education, and the credit bank. Liu introduced Guangdong Open University's one body, two wings, three transformations strategy and its work in serving aging, the Greater Bay Area, and rural revitalization. President Zhang praised the Guangdong model for its alignment with national strategies and regional needs, and expressed interest in establishing a long-term exchange mechanism in areas such as senior education, credit recognition, research collaboration, industry-education integration, and governance.
The visits helped clarify JSOU's development approach by learning from tech enterprises, vocational undergraduate benchmarks, and peer institutions. The university will focus on digital empowerment, program cluster upgrading, industry-education innovation, and lifelong learning services as it advances toward becoming a digitally innovative university.
